Teaching phonetics has always been regarded as an essential subject of general language learning. Therefore, teaching Turkish as a foreign language begins with teaching the phonetics. In this introduction video, you will see a teacher and two child actors raising awareness by introducing Turkish sounds. Thus, children will recognize the Turkish sounds, will have less difficulty in pronouncing words and will take their first step in learning Turkish.
Unit 1: My Home
In this unit, the parts of the house, objects that are used in the house and actions will be taught recurrently. Words from the former modules will be used again in this unit. The “-A/Ir” (present time) suffixes and passive voice structures are catechetic. The game at the end of the course video aims both to amuse and to let the child learn while playing.
Unit 2: We Are Going to the Park
In this unit, the words and actions that the child would use and encounter in the park will be taught. In this module, the aim is to teach words in the theme by the expressions that include features of the colloquial language and to refrain from teaching unnatural language. The suffix –AcAk (future tense) will be treated in this lesson. There is a bonus video including contextual expressions and words at the end of the course video to support learning.
Unit 3: Festivity
In this unit, the aim is to teach children festivity as a Turkish culture and to teach Turkish traditions seen in festivities. Additionally, kinfolk and words for actions in holiday will be taught. Grammar learned from the beginning to this point will be reviewed to reinforce learning.
Unit 4: Nature
In this unit, words a child would encounter and need in nature will be taught. Along with the actions and activities in nature, the words that can be encountered in nature, such as types of animals and flowers are included. Passive voice and the /mAlI suffix will be treated in this lesson. Awareness and value for nature is emphasized in this lesson. In the bonus video at the end of the course video, the child will encounter the words he/she learned before or will learn new words in the context of nature.
Unit 5: My Hobbies
This unit aims to teach the child words and actions related to hobbies. In the catechetical course video, the –Abil suffix will be treated. Thus, the children will be able to see the –Abil suffix both in the question sentence structure and in the positive-negative sentence structure. Moreover, the –sA suffix (subjunctive mood) and “keşke” (If only/I wish) will be treated.
Unit 6: My Emotions
In this unit, it is aimed to teach words that express emotion and illness. “How does he/she feel?”, “What is wrong with him/her?” will be used as the question patterns. Through the dialogues at the end of the course video, it is aimed to teach the child how to use these words and phrases in context. In this way, the child can learn both the colloquial speech and how to use these words in context.
Unit 7: I Am Excited
In this unit, universal special days and national holidays are treated. Special days, such as birthday, mother’s day and the new year’s are treated with new words. When it comes to the national holidays, it is aimed to show the child how it is celebrated in Turkey through video clips of Turkey. Besides these video clips, the reasons of the national holidays are explained. Through the help of these materials, children will gain a little insight into the history of these important days for Turkey.
Unit 8: I Am Going Camping
In this unit, words and structures in the context of camping are given in longer sentences. “Have you ever...?” is used as the question pattern. The grammar topics treated until the 3rd module are included in this unit for reinforcing. Both the nature camp and the language camp are treated in this lesson. Activities, actions and events in camps are also included.
Unit 9: My Grandfather and Me
In this unit, sound recordings and dialogues including grandpa and grandma concepts are presented. Texts in this lesson have been selected from colloquial language and long sentences. The texts are presented in a narrative form. Words and structures in the text involve all the modules and also include new words and structures. The child will also encounter cultural and religious elements.
Unit 10: Getting to Know Turkey
In the last unit, the aim is to introduce Turkey and its culture. The child will obtain more detailed information about Turkey. This course video including the provinces, historical artifacts and natural beauties of Turkey also includes Atatürk, currency and countries of the rest of the world. This way, the child will complete the Turkish course with a lot of learning both about Turkey and its culture at the end of the unit.
